Marketing geography?

Marketing (and management in general) often doesn't take enough notice of geography and history when trying to understand local economies. Despite all the talk of the 'valleys' you can't really understand South Wales without allowing for the coast. The valleys provided the wood, coal, ore (initially) and water for the Industrial Revolution. But it was the coast which allowed the transport in and out of heavy goods which kept the industrial motor running in future decades.
