Breakfast in Ballater

After yesterday's excitement at the Lonach Gathering, this morning we find ourselves in Ballater, in search of some breakfast. This is the old railway station in Ballater. These days it is home to a few shops, a restaurant and a visitors' centre, having been closed in 1966 by the dastardly Dr Beeching. The station at  Ballater  was the terminus of the line that ran inland from Aberdeen along the Dee valley. It was the nearest station to Balmoral Castle and consequently Queen Victoria was a regular visitor.
Mrs T and I have fond memories of the station; back in 1965, when we were walking out together, as they say, we took the train from Aberdeen to Ballater, and headed off into the woods to enjoy a splendid picnic prepared by my landlady.
Today we had to make do with a bacon roll, but I have to say that it was a very fine bacon roll indeed!
