Captain Cook's Monument

On Easby Moor stands Captain Cook's Monument which was erected in 1827 to celebrate the life of the great explorer. He lived and went to school in the nearby village of Great Ayton.
The Cleveland Way long distance footpath passes this point.
From here there are panoramic views along the curve of the Cleveland Hills, down into Great Ayton, and across to Roseberry topping which can clearly be seen in this photograph.

The heather is currently in full bloom beneath today's dramatic skies.
