Fireplace in the Round Drawing Room

On the dark and wet bank-holiday Monday the family took a trip to Strawberry HIll House. I have been before but this was the first time as a member of the public.

The house is stunning and the restoration a triumph. This fireplace takes is its inspiration from the tomb of Edward the Confessor in Westminster Abbey ! The whole house is like that with Gothick design lifted from tombs and doorways in cathedrals.
