Patriots First Game

Owen had his first football game of the season today. Coach had him playing quarterback. I hardly slept I was so nervous about it. He and the center have a lot to work on in terms of the snap. But, when Owen was able to get the snap, things went pretty well. He completed a pass and had several good hand-offs. The things about Owen is that he wasn't shaken in the least. He reflectively thought about what he did right and wrong. He was calm and cool when other adults and kids asked how the game went. He quietly listened to their advice, nodding his head. I believe his demeanor would have been pretty much the same if the game went the other way.

This shot, however, is from my favorite play of the game. Teshe is a double striper. That means he's over the weight limit to carry the ball by the league's rules. This is a good thing given the considerable size difference between kids at this age. Anyway, Teshe got the ball on a kick return, the one time that he can legally carry the ball, and clearly demonstrated what would happen if stripers could carry the ball. Five boys attempted to tackle him before he finally went down. I took a series of photos of the attempts, but this final effort was my favorite.
