Mayan textiles

This colourful section of a Mexican tablecloth is the blip for the day - textures.

This cloth was made in a Mayan Indian village that we visited. The women use very simple technology called a back-strap loom. The weaver incorporates designs into the fabric as it is woven. This technique allows the weaver to set up their loom almost anywhere, indoors, outside or in the market place. It becomes a very social occasion as the women weave and chat to each other while they are working.
