Where did you come from?

Clearing a bit of my vegetable garden today, I was astounded to be confronted by this large fungus hiding under my cabbages. I have found little ones before, growing in my lawn, but I have never seen such a big one and never found any near my veg before. Anyone know what it is? ( I expect it to be very common!)
