If you can't beat them...

A walk up the Beacon.

......... and relax! Life should now begin to slow down and be a little less hectic. This morning Clickychick handed in the keys to her Mum's little old peoples bungalow.

With more time to ourselves we decided on an early (ish) evening meal and a stroll up Penrith Beacon before nipping in to visit FredaH in the care home. It was a beautiful evening and we were lucky to have hit the quiet time while most dog walkers etc were still at home. I rather liked this shot of the sun pouring through the trees.

The Beacon or more correctly Beacon Pike was at one time a desert sand dune the sandstone having round grains showing it has been wind worn (or so a geologist told me). Originally the hill would have had a fire as the beacon later replaced by tar box and eventually the current building. The beacon on Carlisle castle could be seen and in turn Penrith beacon was seen further down the chain at Orton. It would be used mainly to warn of attack by the Scots during "border reiving".
