comings and goings

Ridge street overpass of the Warringah freeway / Bradfield highway ie entrance and exit to the Sydney harbour bridge and tunnel. At this point (looking north) it is 16 lanes wide. 2km north this turns to 7 lanes + shared cycle/pedestrian. At the harbour (to the south) it is 12 lanes wide (8 above & 4 below harbour) plus two train lines a pedestrian & cycle lane. So in this 4 km stretch there are about 16 entries and exits and this is the single busiest stretch of road in the country. With all these lanes entries exits merges there are surprisingly few incidents. People from Melbourne smugly think they have the best motorways in the country, truth is they are rank amateurs compared to this, but don't try and reason with them, they just don't get it. There is a control centre in the middle of all this that is a 24/7/365 operation fully hooked into all parts of this road.
