Where did summer go ...

Surely not. Autumn can't be here yet. Not when we haven't had our fill of what seemed to be turning into an exceptional summer. So why are the first leaves turning gold at the edges, while the blackberry crop is looking just about over, and the chestnut trees are becoming lush with prickly seed cases? Any day now we'll be seeing small boys playing conkers.
