Peregrine Falcon At Cattle Point

Today the orcas returned to the west side of the San Juan island, but we missed them. We did take a car ride over to the lighthouse, and then south to Cattle Point. It was interesting to find a peregrine falcon taking on a buzzard near Cattle Point Lighthouse. The peregrine falcon is noted for it's speed, reaching over 200mph making them the fastest member of the animal kingdom. Luckily for the buzzard, this immature falcon was not successful with it's attack, finally giving up and flying off toward the cliffs near the ocean edge. Then out of nowhere came an eagle, riding the updrafts coming off the beautiful grassy slopes leading up to the lighthouse. The view from this area is beautiful...grassy slopes in every direction, with sweeping view of the southeastern shores of the island, along with islands in the distance.
