Saturday

Saturday is orchid watering day. I gather all eight of them onto the kitchen draining board from wherever they live, on shady windowsills. I spray them with foliar feed and fill their pots to the brimwith rainwater from the butt and they sit there for an hour, soaking it all in. Then I drain them and put them back in their place. Most of them are four or five years old. They must like this treatment because six out of eight of them have flower spikes. Maybe it is because I talk to them. Or perhaps it is just the time of year that orchids flower!
