Rodney, demonstrating

I was surprised to see this man standing on Haverfordwest's main street holding up placards towards the on-coming traffic. I hadn't been aware of that this was a national day of action against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, a freetrade arrangement between Britain and the US which will allow corporate business interests to be prioritized over environmental and social concerns by using secret arbitration panels to sue governments that try to resist them. In particular it could result in the NHS being remoulded along the lines of American private health care and render unions powerless to defend workers' rights.

Rodney appeared to be Haverfordwest's sole protestor. He said there were also 'a couple of ladies collecting signatures'. I signed online and if you would like to do so, or find out more about it, go here for the petition or read what George Monbiot says here. War on Want provides a full explanation of the implications of TTIP which can be accessed here.

The red building is the former Guildhall, now commercial premises. Haverfordwest is not an ethnically diverse community so I was pleased to discover that I had accidentally included some non-white people in the shot.
