Harbor Days

Every year at this time, Harbor Days is held at the port in Olympia, WA. Working tugboats from the area tie up at the marina and allow people onboard. The highlight of the two day event is the tugs racing out on the Sound. The origin of the races is historical: when ships would come to port, tugs would speed out to them to offer their services and the fastest tug got the job. This is the bow of the tugboat Galene, out of Portland, OR. She is a huge ocean-going tug, a truly impressive vessel. The people you see are invitees who rode on her when she raced today.
