PEEPING TOM

“You spying on us, Nutty? You either get up here and eat proper, or get off this feeder ‘til we’re done.”

This nuthatch stayed hanging off the edge like this for quite a while. The goldfinch and sparrow definitely noticed him and stopped eating to check him out. It looked like the goldfinch was giving him quite a scolding.

I’m experimenting with the seed in this feeder, with oiled sunflower seed on the left and the a mix of smaller, light seeds on the right. My new, tube feeder has just the smaller, mixed seeds – it has a steady stream of birds and has to be refilled every day. An older feeder has just the sunflower seeds and isn’t nearly as popular as it used to be now that the tube feeder is up. I’ll be interested to see which half of this seed goes down the quickest.
