Almshouses, King Street Cambridge.

A plaque on the wall of these houses states the following :-" Elizabeth Knight, late of Denny Abbey, by her last will dated 1647, gave these six almshouses and 18 pounds a year to be shared amongst the inhabitants, also 160 pounds to the Corporation of Cambridge, to be lent au gratis to eight young tradesmen, according to her said will. These almshouses having fallen into decay were repaired and improved by donations of £500 and £200 from Alderman William Mortlock of Cambridge." So many times I have passed these houses over the years but never thought of looking at the history. Joining Blipfoto has been a great source of finding out interesting facts. I also like looking at the local areas, buildings and monuments etc of my blipmates. Such a rewarding hobby. Maybe the bicycle should be a Penny Farthing!
