Then and now

Just over a month ago I blipped the harvest in one of the fields near us. I mentioned a black and white print that dated back to 1890 showing haymaking in the field directly behind our house.

For some time I have wanted to recreate this picture taken from the very same spot. We have been able to locate the precise spot where where the photograph was taken by the angle of the church tower in the background.

Although the original was taken in May 1890 and shows hay being gathered, the nearest I could get was today when they baled up the straw following the recent wheat harvest.

The only landmark still recognisable is the church which looks remarkably unchanged with the same shingle roof on the spire. The barns in the original picture are now barn conversions and are hidden by the trees that have grown up in the foreground.
