All about the birds

We went to Cromarty to the Seashore Road show and it poured with rain and we got soaked. The rig that Sedge and Lyns saw coming in yesterday was still in the Cromarty Firth and looked huge.
We picked up some lunch from the Cromarty Baker and headed for the bird hide to see if we could see the Common Crane. It was there but a long way off. We wondered if the geese had arrived as we heard someone say that 100s had landed at Findhorn on Thursday night. We saw the Brent geese that he been photographing and he said they might have been ones flown up from Nairn.

We did nt see any geese at Udale Bay but plenty of Oyster catchers, lapwing, a variety of ducks and gulls and lots of brown waders, which I could nt id as again too far away. The herons were out in force too at least seven on the grass.

When I got home I noticed lots of swallows on the roof and the parents were still coming down to feed them. I was pleased with this shot.

I have never seen so many Pied wagtails either, they seemed to be everywhere. It really was a good year for them.
