Porty People and Places

Someone to watch over you ...

The Minna - a Fisheries Protection vessel - is at anchor - on the horizon. The practice we watched earlier in the week was put to the test in the regatta that took place all day today just off Portobello Beach.

Despite the absence of sun, it got warmer as the day progressed, and there were many out enjoying the late summer seaside.

On the High Street the battle lines between Yes and No were being re-drawn with both camps ensconced on the plaza in front of the Portobello Town Hall. The Yes supporters were making much more noise than the No promoters and I was disappointed to see the arrogance of the vociferous Yes supporters pushing their stickers and leaflets onto everyone who they passed irrespective of whether they wished them or not. That is not the compassionate and caring Scotland that I believe Alex and Nicola talk about. I do worry how these pumped up supporters will react - whatever the result.

I reiterate that I will respect the outcome YES or NO and have high hopes for Scotland in the light of either result. Today's behaviour was letting the side down and I look to Alex and Nicola for bringing some dignity back to the campaign while there is still time.
