Te Awa Cycle Track

What a fabulous day it was today!
For the second Sunday in a row our power was off from 9am till 4 pm, so we loaded the bikes onto the car and drove out to the Karapiro Domain (the HQ of Rowing NZ; where the world rowing champs are held in NZ) .

We are fortunate to have some amazing cycle tracks on the mighty Waikato river and today we decided to ride stage three of the Te Awa track. (Te Awa is Moari for river.)

We really started at the wrong end because we headed south which is only 2 or 3 kms from the end of stage three, however it is probably the most spectacular part as the cycle way meanders along the riverbank with fantastic views, good twists and turns and ups and downs and in one part the track is in the form of a boardwalk which is actually over the water and it is fantastic.

On reaching the end of the track we turned around and headed south towards Cambridge. This part of the track goes to Leamington then by road to the new valadrome.
The track was concrete all the way and again some good variation to start with but then mainly flat and straight to Leamington.

We were riding for about 2 and a half hours all up. I was very happy to dismount after we arrived back at the car.

I took this photo back at the domain where there were many people enjoying the sunshine and the river views as well as other cyclists.
