The oldest passenger terminal station in the World

Manchester Liverpool Road is the former terminus station of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in Manchester. It was opened by the then Prime Minister, the Duke of Wellington on 15 September 1830.

The station was the Manchester terminus of the world's first inter city passenger railway in which all services were hauled by timetabled steam locomotives. It is now the world's oldest surviving terminal railway station.

The station closed to passenger services on 4 May 1844, when the L&M line was extended and Liverpool Road was superseded by Manchester Victoria railway station for passenger services. The station was converted to a goods yard. The station, which is a Grade I listed building, is now part of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

The proposed HS2 Ordsall Curve will cut off Liverpool Road from the mainlines network if agreed after Public Inquiry.
