Wooden predator?

Driving home from Longview, Washington, over the Lewis and Clark Bridge, we came upon this scene on the Oregon side. John stopped so I could take a picture of the carved wolf we had noticed there earlier. Not till I had my camera ready did I notice the dead deer he had stashed in the grass. Or maybe, just maybe, it was hit by a car on the nearby highway...
