... to travel hopefully ......

"A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving."
Lao Tzu

A day out with Dad, initially to the Heritage  Railway at Blaenafon [which isn't running today] so a change of plan.  Decided to go further west to Merthyr to the Brecon Mountain Railway, but just missed the train....

J had mentioned Cyfarthfa Castle, so headed off there for a spell in the sunshine overlooking the gardens.  Got a potted history of the Cyfarthfa Ironmaster Crawshay from one of the locals walking his dog.  Dad found a bench in the shade  while I got the lowdown on the place.

Respects paid to Cyfarthfa we headed back to Pant, to the Station.  Time for coffee and cake before the 2pm train leaves for Torpantau.  Delicious Victoria Sponge and a Latte for me.  Sense of nostalgia travelling in the wooden carriages on the narrow gauge railway, winding through the wooded valleys up past Pontsticill and the Taf Fechan Reservoir.  Warm in the sunshine; definite autumn colours around as the leaves are turning colour.

A minor detour off the Heads of the Valleys on the return journey to photograph "Twisted Chimney" by Brian Tolle which stands overlooking the model village of Bute Town, above Rhymney.
