Not deep enough

I've been trying to capture this geranium since it's first show of flowers, earlier in the Summer. No matter what settings I use, I cannot get the camera to show the true colour of the petals.

It's been a strange day, with a mixture of mending, cleaning and shopping. This afternoon, I met the most interesting young woman, who is a member of the Guild of Taxidermists. She invited me into her home and my mouth must have visibly dropped open. She has THE most amazing collection of stuffed animals, most of which were Victorian.
Nobody would guess from her appearance, that such a delicate (and pretty) young woman would have such a gruesome career.
