A concrete love affair

Hello Wellington...

Finally arrived at New Zealand's wonderful capital city and it looks absolutely beautiful in the spring sunshine...

We took a short drive into the city from our motel last night, a beautiful journey with the motorway on reclaimed land*** sharing the space with the railway line; sea and skyline beyond. Once in the centre the motorway scythed between a veritable forrest of tall buildings, through tunnels, cuttings and above cable car tracks, it was amazing to see with FM-radio multi-path distortion confirming the city's savage topography.

Once arrived, checked in, returned our beloved hire car, Leo, and got a lift to Welly's legendary independent cinema, The Roxy. Wonderful Art Deco jazz age vibe and just had to send an Instagram pic back for The Short Cinema.

Got the bus back to the city centre and we love it, first impressions so so good, such a wonderful city. Loving the waterfront and spent the afternoon at New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa. Now having a craft beer at one of Welly's many many craft beer pubs, indeed it's the craft beer capital of the world!

More exploring tomorrow and very much looking forward to it!

**edit** - learnt today that this 'reclaimed land' was in fact created thanks to an 1880's earthquake which raised this terrace above sea level!
