THE BAR

Yesterday's sunshine was shortlived and turned to a cold drizzle and rain. Everyone thinks it will snow. The trees certainly are feeling the cold, and have begun the color change early. Winter is coming, they say.

The cold rain kept me indoors with taking photos of the house. This is the bar in the downstairs family room. The first owner of the house was a well known physician who loved Colorado history. He also owned several mining claims on top of Independence Pass (about 12,500 feet elevation). On one of those claims was an abandoned saloon. He removed the bar from the saloon, along with some of the weathered boards from the saloon, and reassembled the bar in the basement of the house, and used the weathered boards to construct the cupboard shown on the far wall, and all of the beams in the ceiling. He also lined one of the back walls (not shown) in the weathered boards, but my mother in law thought they were "a bit too much" and had them removed.

I have fond memories of this bar. My in-laws had many parties here and I always "played at" bartender. But such a large "built in" may not be to everyone's liking. It will be sad if the new owners decide to tear it out.

Here's to keeping warm and dry! Cheers!
