Wall Painting from 1700BC

Its just incredible to contemplate the individuals who lived almost 4000 years ago and carried out such beautiful work. This wall painting is in the museum on Santorini and is from the city of Akrotiri which was covered in volcanic ash at the time of the major eruption that blew the island apart. Excavation only started in 1967 and its reckoned only 3% of the entire site has been uncovered so far. The items on display are in stunningly good conditions and the people back then weren't just producing functional, practical day-to-day goods - cooking pots, cups, jars, vases, but beautifully decorated ones.
