Character Assassination

Film night. It's another one which has previously eluded me, but was well worth digging out. Violet & Daisy has the late, great James Gandolfini playing a man with a contract on his life, who finds himself in a tricky position when he discovers that the assassins waiting in his apartment to kill him are two teenage girls. Black comedies about hitmen (or hitpersons, as the case may be) are ten a penny, but with plenty of surreal humour, engaging characters and sly nods to genre classics such as Leon and Grosse Pointe Blank, Violet & Daisy is immensely watchable. Far from perfect, but a minor indie gem.
