Island in a Lake in a Island in a lake in an Island in the sea.
There is a small island in this small lake called Arethusa Pool on Mou Waho Island which is in Lake Wanaka. Went to help plant some natives trees and shrubs.

Once this island was covered in native trees - the first settlers cut many of them down to make some boats and for the gold miners who wanted timber. Next this Island was taken over by pines and the birds were dying out. Recently the pines were removed, the bush is regenerating, and the Birds e.g. Bell Birds, Geckos and the native ground hen our Weka are proliferating.
The whole island was formed by glaciation and we were told it once had about 1000 feet of ice over it.

Lake Wanaka is 280m above sea level. And pool is 416m ie a climb of 135
