Every Picture Tells .....

Gone in the Blink of an Eye

A lovely sunny day, left the car at the hotel and took the bus into Reyjavik to check out the sights (cafés and shops).

Visited the Hallgrimskirkja church which I blipped earlier in the week and took the elevator to the top of the tower. It was 12:00 noon when we arrived so we were deafened entertained by the chimes.

A walk round the harbour and, as it was a clear sunny afternoon, we decided to book on the 5 pm whale-watching boat. As it was only 2 pm it meant a 3-hour wait!!

New hats, a fleece, a t-shirt, gloves, a puffin magnet, lunch, rhubarb tart and several coffees later we were ready to sail.

The whale watching was a bit deficient in the whale department. Plenty of seabirds and a very brief encounter with a Minke whale. Harriet managed to get a glimpse (unfortunately I didn't). Harriet also saw some dolphins.

Despite the whale shortage, the boat trip was enjoyable lasting over 3 hours and we sailed back to Reykjavik in a glorious sunset. Harriet can be seen here wearing her new hat.

The Aurora forecast for tonight is good. There's a solar flare hitting the earth and the sky is clear over south-west Iceland. We will be heading to the lighthouse car park. It could be a long night in the car. I'm wearing my new fleece and thermals.
