An Afternoon With Glücksfee & Mohrli
Today is the QSM's birthday and she wanted to do something that reminded her of being young. And so we went for a tour through the Taunus in a horse-drawn wagon.
Glücksfee (luck-fairy) is on the left and Mohrli (Blackie) is on the right.
I've never done anything quite like it before. It really was a couple of hours out of the past. A complete change of pace and being told about the borders between various villages (most of which are marked by a very old oak tree) and how the old paths actually ran through the landscape.
We started in a small village called Fischbach and made a 2 hour round trip. It was lots of fun (although the village dialect was pretty hard to understand at times).
Afterwards we repaired to the restaurant that the coach-driver owns and met a few friends for dinner. The coach driver had recommended the Kutschersschnitzel to me and I duly ordered it.
I have never seen a bigger plate of food in my life.
If I had pulled the coach round for the full 2 hours then perhaps I could have managed it. As it was, roughly ¾ of a pig is now wrapped in foil and waiting for me to eat at breakfast. If I can eat anything.
In winter you can make the same trip but with the coach on skis instead of wheels. I'm sure they'd put a couple of jingle bells on the horses just to complete that Xmas feel. Should you fancy it, you can check it out here. You will need your German though.
