William Webb Ellis, Rugby

This statue in Rugby is of Rev. William Webb Ellis ( 1806 – 1872) an Anglican clergyman who is famous for allegedly being the inventor of Rugby football whilst a pupil at Rugby School.

We enjoyed a visit to Rugby with my sister and her husband, who then showed us the other delights of Rugby including a specialist beer shop that also sells bright beer straight from a barrel. This was taken back to their house and consumed with a lovely home cooked Indian meal. It was a great break and a good way to celebrate my husbands birthday.
