Beauty beyond compare

Fuchsia, for me the King, Queen, Prince and Princess of all flowers. There are some 110 species, all beautiful and most native to South America.

The first to be discovered by a European was Fuchsia triphylla, on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. It was described in 1696 by the French Minim monk and botanist Charles Plumier, during his expedition to the Greater Antilles. He named the genus after the renowned German botanist Leonhart Fuchs (1501–1566).
