Big Friendly Giant?

Today we had the Reading Scheme Award presentations down at the library in Woodbridge.

The Reading Scheme is a national scheme that runs in local libraries to encourage children to read over the summer. A record number of children entered - and finished - the scheme at our library this year. In fact, so many that that my voice got a bit hoarse, we had so many names to read out! It was really wonderful!

There was a a Giant who came along too, and everything.

Very appropriately it was a Big Friendly Giant. WITH a smoke breathing dragon.

("He's only young. He'll learn to breathe fire when he's older,"said the Giant.)

I have to say several of the children were sceptical about this Giant's giantly qualities.

"You're wearing stilts!" declared one little lad.

"No, those are my real feet. Look, I've got shoes on. If I were wearing stilts, they would end in sticks, wouldn't they?" responded the quickwitted Giant.
