Cinema should make you forget ...

Cinema should make you forget you are sitting in a theater.

Happy Pancake Day!

I actually had a great photo of the Frog clock at the mall that blows bubbles and sings a song every hour on the hour as it was also a great segue for the movie we saw today: The Princess and the Frog. But instead, I decided on this blip as it's the 1927 art deco feature from the Bridgnorth Majestic.

After a morning of pancakes and a day of shopping (yes, Charlotte managed to get daddy to buy her even more clothes today!) we decided that although a movie at the bigger movie theater Odeon would have been great, there's nothing like seeing a movie at the Majestic. Back in 2001, a property development bought the Majestic but were planning on tearing it down for redevelopment into flats. However, after an outpouring of complaints and pleas, the property company decided to enhance the Majestic and now use it as a template for small independent movie theaters to follow to survive.

After the movie ended, the usher who turned out to be the manager came out to find out why I was taking photos. When I explained that although I've been to that theater a lot in the last 10 years, I've never had a camera with me. He kindly went in the back, turned up the lights and shut the movie off (which was at the end of the credits) as apparently it's illegal to take photographs while a movie is running (file that under learn something new every day!).

The manager stated that this is an original feature of the 1927 building that were recently restored to their former glory. Although they will be upgrading to digital soon, they character and feel of the building will remain the same. If not, they will revert back to non-digital.

On top of all this- they are looking into getting Banksy's documentary Exit Through The Gift Shop. How could you not want to support your local movie theatre when it's as brilliant as the Majestic?
