Near Clu Ber

This morning was very foggy and I almost decided against a walk. But I decided to trust the untrustworthiness of Orkney weather and headed off to Deerness and obviously I was right to do so.
I was looking for the migrant birds that may have drifted here on easterly winds. I found a pied flycatcher at the Lighthouses Corner quarry and then walked to Mull Head. I met a few other local birdwatchers on the way. The sun broke through at about 12.30. On Mull Head I flushed a woodcock and had coffee on the cliffs. Gannets, kittiwakes and a couple of bonxies there and a whinchat on a fence. I walked back to the corner for the bus and the fog rolled back in like curtains closing on a play.
