Plebiscite

plebiscite

noun: plebiscite; plural noun: plebiscites
the direct vote of all the members of an electorate on an important public question such as a change in the constitution.

Studying 20th Century history at school, plebiscite was one of my favourite words. I had no idea back then that I'd actually take part in one!

I voted. There was a short queue inside. I put my 'X' in the box. Then I came out to take a quick photo for posterity. The 'yes' and 'no' camps were separated by a pot plant. I don't think there'll be much to separate them by the morning either. It's genuinely too close to call.
