Dawning...

Well, I've been at the Independence Referendum National Count Centre all night, and posting this when there are just two more local authority areas to declare.

But the final result is known, if not the final detailed tally. Scotland now needs to come together in compassion, humility, trust and respect - proud that democracy has been renewed and strengthened.

It has been a real thrill to have a "front row" seat here at Ingliston. That has included seeing so many young people - activists and first time voters aged 16 and 17 - eagerly anticipating the results - and I've witnessed the joy and sorrow the announcements have brought, depending on where they stand.

For me that is the most powerful element in all of this - our young people so engaged and passionate. It gives me hope as this new day dawns.
