Suffrage Day 19 September

In light of the fact that tomorrow is Election day and today is infact Suffrage Day I went and voted today.

Today marks 121 years of women’s suffrage in NZ. In 1893, New Zealand became the first nation in the world to grant women the right to vote.

The petition in 1893, was signed by one in four woman. It took untill 1933, for NZ to get it's first female MP (Elizabeth McCombs).

And of course Kate Sheppard is on the $10 note. And Ive been too where she is buried at Addington Cemetery in Christchurch. A very non descriptive headstone, that doesn't even bear the name Kate Sheppard.
