Scotland...

...decided!

Alex Salmond said that he wanted the people of Scotland to decide their future - well, yesterday they did. The referendum has to be seen as a massive triumph for democracy. Not only was there the highest ever registration to vote in Scotland's recent history, but also 84.59% of those registered turned out to vote. The final 55%-45% (appx) split in favour of no was something that I was fearing would go the other way at this time yesterday.

IMHO middle Scotland stared into the abyss and took a huge step backwards. Why? Well, I think that there were far too many unanswered questions and far too much uncertainty for middle Scotland to take the "leap of faith" that was hoped for by the Yes campaign. But what do I know about such things? What I do know is that we now havoe to closely watch the Westminster politicians, and hold them to account if they even look like going back on their pomises.
