Mosquito riding the snail.....

I had gone out in the early hours of this morning to see if the drunk wasps had gone to bed or if they were still acting like drunk humans. The wasps had gone to bed apart from those in a drunken stupor on the ground. They had imbibed an excess of the honeydew excreted by the aphids on the willow.
But the snails were out sliding along the excreted honeydew.
This mosquito was 'riding' the snail. He was facing the same way as the snail's head, just as a human rider faces the same way as a horse's head.
Not only was he doing that but he was beating the snail's shell with his left rear leg. If you look carefully you might be able to see that. The mosquito was doing that for quite considerable time.
I have photographed this happening in previous years... mosquitoes doing exactly the same thing.
This reminds me of some Victorian or Edwardian children's fairy tale illustrations I saw as a child. There were fairies in the illustration but something like this mosquito was riding the snails.
