Lenny Loves This!

A Little Lenny Update

The vet gave Lenny some lovely pink lotion to put on his sores and some antibiotic cream and we said we’d see how he was doing in a couple of days.

We went back up on 17th and he was still sore and uncomfortable, I jokingly said that we should start at the top and work our way down in fixing Lenny as one of my worries is also that his teeth are causing a real problem and that any gum infection could be entering his system.

Ermmmm I don’t think my vet believed me how bad Lenny’s teeth and gums were!! He took one look and he was speechless. So we decided that Lenny definitely needs a teeth clean, without a doubt.

Now Lenny has never had an anaesthetic before, and with all of his medication we decided that it would be best to give Lenny a blood test just to see if we can get an indication of what is going on internally, as it is always obvious what is going on externally.

He has always been a big drinker, and we have always put that down to the tablets, particularly the steroids. Lenny wasn’t too keen on having blood taken, but all things considered he wasn’t as bad as some of The Mutley Crew.

We got the results back on Friday and as suspected his liver isn’t great. He has a GPT value of 115 (Norm 10-65) which is bad but we saw much worse with Roddy (GPT of 1180), but fortunately the liver can regenerate. Lenny’s Alkaline Phosphate level though is through the roof at 2143 (Norm is up to 128).

So, we have to take out as many of his tablets as we can. So no more Pentoxifilina and Steroids down to once every 24 hours, then after a week down to once every 48 hours, until we can remove those completely too. Back for another blood test in a months’ time and then we can assess if there is any other problem with the liver or whether it is the tablets which are having the adverse effect.

I have also taken other photos of Lenny so we can have a record to see how much difference if any taking Atopica every day gives. I know that when we first picked him up he was on Atopica daily and his coat really filled out and he looked like a true little fluff ball.

The fur still hasn't grown back from August last year where his chest was shaved after the abscess, and the fur around his neck is also so thin after trying him with a scalibor collar. He has very scaly elbows, and the skin on his tummy is also very dry and flaky. Still he may not be a picture of a healthy dog, but as long as he is a happy one that is the important thing.
