Rosslyn Chapel, Melrose Abbey and Alnwick Castle

Today I did a tour with some friends which took us to Rosslyn Chapel, Melrose Abbey and Alnwick Castle. Our guide for the day also took us to some places not on the list which included Floor Castle and Kelso Abbey.

Although you aren't allowed to take photos in Rosslyn Chapel or Alnwick Castle the tour was still worth doing. If you're a Harry Potter fan or a Da Vinci Code fan or just interested in some great history I would definitely recommend you going.

The above image is of Alnwick Castle and for all those Harry Potter fans out there you may recognise this part of the castle from the first movie, where Neville falls off his broom. It was truly a magical experience and surprisingly the Percy family still live in the castle (lucky or what?).

Rosslyn Chapel was amazing and even better seeing if for yourself than on the big screen or in a documentary. There is so much to be seen here that you could spend the whole day looking through every nook and cranny searching for things. I was quite surprised when I went in though as it's much smaller than I was expecting but that didn't take away any of the awe or fascination.

Melrose Abbey was also beautiful though you do have to pay to go in (I just walked round the outside). The ruined Abbey was lovely and the graveyard around it made it seem to old and mystical. This is also where the heart of Robert the Bruce is buried.

All up the day was great - long - but well worth the money. I can't wait to go see more places outside of the great city of Edinburgh!
