Surgery

I pulled White Balance's ailing camera apart last night, to see if anything could be done.

After fiddling with it most of the morning, it seems to me the inside of the camera is pretty much fine - no sea water seems to have made it inside.

However, the problem seems to come from the little power switch/dial that sits on top of the body and unfortunately got soaked. Its miniscule inner workings seem to have fallen victim to the water/salt/sand that made their way through the gap under the wheel-thingy and basically shorted the switch out.

The camera powers up now, more or less, but basically just does random things, and always thinks the batteries are low.

She wants to have it repaired, or replaced with an exact duplicate; I'm encouraging her to consider a newer model. After all, the Amazon page for this one says it was first available in 1973!

Okay - that date may not be exact. ;-)

Anyway, this, then, is a portrait of the offending part, in all it's frustrating glory.
