Monday: Sveti Naum

We took a drive out this morning to Sveti Naum monastery, on the shores of Lake Ohrid.  The grounds were lovely, full of lakes and peacocks, and it was wonderful to stroll around.  The monastery itself was lovely but was ruined by the hotel built all around it.  If they had left well alone, it would have stood in beautiful isolation.

On the way back to Ohrid, we took a drive through the Galishia National Park where we encountered two Polish hitchhikers.  Normally picking up a hitchhiker would be the last thing I would do, but these two looked so trustworthy, and were so far from anywhere, that we gave them a lift.  They were going on a hike to the peak and had already been walking for two hours.  We gave them a lift for the remainder of the way (about 15km) but I can't help feeling they were ill prepared.

And we also bought new dice tonight to replace the ones I tossed into the sea last week.  So the backgammon challenge can recommence!
