Hip Hop Night at the Monterey Jazz Festival

The festival is making itself over to appeal to younger audiences. The headliner group Saturday night was the Hip Hop group “The Roots.” While I appreciated some of what they did, my favorite was Billy Childs and the great supporting cast he had on the stage with him. One of the cast was a great young trumpet player named Ambrose Akinmusire. Not all jazz greats are old guys.
