Dark choices

The bathroom is a good place to read of course. It is the sense of isolation, a feeling of immunity from intrusion created by the walls and closed door that make it so. It is also a good place for thoughts in the morning. Sometimes, a lot of new ideas come in while the simple acts of brushing, bathing, etc get done purely on subconscious impetus.

Knowingly or unknowingly, and small as it might be, most of us create expectations from ourselves, about things we we presume to know. Sometimes, we go ahead of ourselves and set our minds about outcomes too. But there are days when the machinery of the mind and the body don't work as we would need and when reality falls short of our expectations, a negative feeling sinks in. The rational mind would then look for facts across various dimensions, for circumstances that might have changed, which would have prevented us from being at our best. So, there are situations when reasons are found and we reconcile ourselves to a diminished set of expectations and find some contentment. At other times, no reason is be found. This gap can be attributed to our inability to spot those hidden causes or link them to the outcomes.

A good test for mental strength lies in situations like these. How quickly do we resort to mysticism when we hit a wall or when we feel trapped in darkness? Mystical "explanations" have been there since man's existence and the immediate solace they apparently offer sows seeds for more difficulties in the future. They refuse to take the arduous journey to reach the heart of the matter while simply looking at its manifestations. What's sad about this is that it becomes a dependency, much like an addiction, becoming its own cause and effect in a whirlpool that can only go downwards.

Anyway, there are too many thoughts today and I could just go on. I tell myself, it's Friday! So, the more important question is - which dark chocolate from the above would you prefer? And would the equation change if I added Lindt to the list?
