Tystie

I cycled along to Scapa pier this morning. There was a great crested grebe close-in but I only managed a couple of shots before a crab-boat left the pier and the bird disappeared for a while. It is a common enough bird down south but not in Orkney- only one bird was recorded here last year. This black guillemot was easier to shoot as it sat relaxing on the slip. It is already in its winter plumage, very different from its summer appearance. Tystie is the Scottish name.
