Time & Tide

This beautiful brass clock by Peter Wylie Davidson c.1900 is part of an exhibition by Lyon & Turnbull to coincide with the Creative Mackintosh Festival in Glasgow.

Mackintosh and his Contemporaries is a show of more than 20 important decorative arts pieces, including items by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries.

The exhibition will run from today until October 17 at the Glasgow Gallery in Bath Street.

Included in the exhibition are a pair of ebonised oak "ladder back" chairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh made especially for The Willow Tea Rooms in Sauchiehall Street. The chairs, dating from 1903 and valued at £10-15,000 will be sold at Lyon & Turnbull's Decorative Arts Sale on October 29 in Edinburgh.

The Creative Mackintosh Festival returns for its third year. The Festival celebrates the life and work of Glasgow's most notable architect, designer and artist, the festival in October will combine live music, exhibitions, workshops and talks.

Mackintosh Queen's Cross will host a wide range of events including a classical recital from violinist Fergus Hetherington and pianist Gavin Brady.

This Thursday at Mackintosh Queen's Cross we host a special debate on the future of the Mackintosh Library at the GSA. The event will be chaired by BBC Scotland presenter John Beattie, our speakers are Michael Davis, historian and architectural conservationist and David Mullane, Chair Friends of GSA. Join us to hear both sides of the debate – whether to reinstate the Mackintosh Library or replace it with a modern-day equivalent.
