sympathy flooding

After all the wet weather in the UK I think the Otago weather gods decided it should really start acting like winter down here and put on what the weather forecasters were calling "persistent rain".

One of the results was the Water of the Leith filling to capacity. This attracted the usual crowds of on lookers, including drooling kayakers. These ones were smart enough to not try to paddle these waters but they were pretty happy to have all that rain filling up all the rivers.

The rivers weren't the only thing flooding, our building sprung a few leaks, and on the way home Dr Lizi and I remembered that this sort of weather usually means our basement has done it's annual self-cleansing by filling up with water, so I have spent a wee while on the end of a broom, bailing water and setting up siphons tonight to at least slow the flooding as it continues to rain. Still, it could have been worse. At least all the good stuff is reasonably high up, the forecast is for the rain to ease tomorrow and our basement never looked like this.
